How to Lease a Car in Dubai, UAE

How to Lease a Car in Dubai, UAE
Dubai is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Middle East and offers a number of outdoors activities for you to enjoy during your stay. Leasing a car in Dubai can save you a significant amount of money over using taxis to travel across the Emirate. By shopping around a bit, you can find a decently priced leasing company that will cover the insurance, taxes and basic maintenance on your car for your stay.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Driver's license International driving permit Passport
  • Driver's license
  • International driving permit
  • Passport
Step 1
Create a list of car rental companies to compare car lease prices. Two of the companies that specialize in short- and long-term car leases in Dubai are Budget Rent-a-Car and Thrifty Car rental (see Resources).
Step 2
Ask for price quotes of short- and long-term leases at each car rental agency and compare against the cost of an equivalent car rental agreement. It may be cheaper for you to rent a car if you have time to pass the Dubai road test for a local driving permit.
Step 3
Call your car insurance company to confirm if they will cover your car lease in Dubai under your existing coverage. If they will, the insurance will be cheaper than arranging separate coverage through the leasing company in the UAE. If they will not, then you will need to obtain insurance through the leasing company.
Step 4
Choose a leasing agency to lease your vehicle from. When you travel to the leasing office, you will need to bring your driver's license, international driving permit, passport and credit card with you to the leasing office. You will need to conduct a visual inspection of your car before accepting possession. Once you sign for the car, you will be held liable for any damage suffered to the vehicle.

Tips & Warnings

In the UAE, it is popular to drive 4WD SUVs in the sand dunes. Many U.S. insurance companies will not cover a lease on a car that will be driven off-road.
