How to Upgrade Airline Tickets

Traveling can be a stressful event. If you forgot to upgrade your economy class airline tickets to first class, you may be even more stressed. However, by following a few simple steps you can upgrade your airline tickets when you arrive. This will make your flight more comfortable and may even allow you to relax and catch your breath.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Frequent flyer membership (optional)
  • Frequent flyer membership (optional)
Step 1
On the day of your flight, check in early. When you check in, ask the agent for an upgrade. Flights that leave earlier in the day are less crowded, so you may have greater success then if you are looking for an upgrade.
Step 2
Be polite and patient. You will not get an upgrade by being rude to the agent. Agents are already stretched to the max with requests, but a little bit of charm can go a long way. Be sure you are dressed nicely, too. Showing up looking sloppy can only hurt your chances of being upgraded.
Step 3
If you are a frequent flier, you may be able to get a free upgrade. However, if you are unable to get a free upgrade, it is possible to use spare miles to buy an upgraded ticket.
Step 4
If nothing else is working and you still want that upgrade, you may have to pay for it. Doing so may save you a little stress during your flight.
