How to Arrange My Flights for an Alaskan Cruise

www.freefoto.com

Alaska is a great vacation destination for outdoor enthusiasts in search of wildlife expeditions, fishing excursions and hiking tours. With your itinerary set and your recreational activities planned, the only action left to take is to plan your flight arrangements to your embarkation port.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Embarkation port address
Step 1
Determine your embarkation port. You can find this information on your cruise ticket.
Step 2
Choose a departure city that is closest to your embarkation port. Seward, Alaska, is the gateway to the Kenai Peninsula and embarkation port for Alaska cruises. If this were your embarkation port, you would fly into Seward Airport.
Step 3
Allow enough time to travel from the airport to your embarkation port. Seward Airport sits at the head of Resurrection Bay, so you would need to deplane, clear airport security and travel from Seward Airport to the Port of Seward.
Step 4
Determine the exact number of miles you must travel. Depending on your embarkation port, your arrival destination could be tens of miles away from the pier where your cruise ship will depart. Plan accordingly.
Step 5
Anticipate flight delays by arriving at the airport several hours before your cruise ship is expected to embark. Add at least 2 hours to your expected travel times to avoid missing your cruise ship.
Step 6
Arrange transportation. Motor coach transfers, trains, car rentals and taxis are commonly used by cruise passengers to get to and from the airport.
Step 7
Make the same considerations when returning from your cruise vacation. When deciding on your return flight itinerary, allow enough time to travel from the embarkation port to the airport in advance of your flight time.

Tips & Warnings

Port of Seward is often used as an embarkation port because of its proximity to Anchorage, a popular Alaskan cruise destination.

Always allow sufficient travel time.
