How to Apply for an American Passport Online
In order to go out in the wide wide world and explore the many international destinations for adventure travel, you need to get a U.S. passport. Much of the application process for a U.S. passport can be done online using downloadable forms that are available at the State Department's website. However, you must bring these forms in person to an accepted facility or passport agency in order to finalize the process and receive your passport.

Print out the application. Use black ink only.
Step 5
Gather your proof of citizenship. Proof of citizenship consists of a previous passport, a birth certificate, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship or consular report of birth abroad or certification of birth.
Step 6
Gather your ID. Acceptable ID consists of previous U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, valid driver's license, current government ID or current military ID.

Take passport photos. Most photo studios and travel agencies will take your picture for passports. Make sure you have two copies.
Step 8
Apply in person. Although much of the application process can be done online, the final application can only be done in person unless you are renewing, in which case it can be done by mail. Be sure to bring all of the above documents including the completed online application. Check the State Department website for the nearest passport agency or authorized facility.
