An Obermeyer Jackets Review

What To Look For

Obermeyer ski jackets were designed for use as single jackets, or worn in layers. When you begin shopping, you'll notice that jackets are divided into coats and shells. The shells are made of a fleece material that keeps the body warm, but doesn't provide any protection from moisture. You should look for a jacket that fits your properly, with arms that reach the bottom of your hands and a removable hood that allows for multiple uses. You can use the jacket on the ski slopes or as a regular jacket during the colder months when running errands around town.

Common Pitfalls

Obermeyer jackets are often found online, but the way the jacket looks online and the way it looks on-site isn't necessarily the same. You might notice that the colors look duller or brighter than you thought when shopping online. Another problem you might encounter relates to the size of the jacket, as clothing manufacturers each use a different sizing process. Obermeyer points out that their jackets often run smaller, which means you'll need to order one size up if shopping online. For example, if you typically wear a Large, then you should order an Extra-Large for a better fit.

Where To Buy

The best place to buy Obermeyer jackets online is through a website where you can read reviews by shoppers, such as Amazon. However, if you're unsure about the fit or style of the jacket and how it looks on you, then shop in a brick-and-mortar store. The Sierra Trading Post, Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops all sell Obermeyer jackets, as do stores that specialize in ski equipment. Aspen Ski & Board, Bavarian Village Ski Outfitters and Mountain Man Ski Shop are stores where you can try out the jackets before making a purchase.

Cost

Obermeyer makes jackets in different sizes for teens, children and adults, with each type of jacket having its own retail price. Teen jackets retail for $125 to $180 depending on the type and style. Jackets for kids retail for $135 and less, while adult jackets are $150 to $450. Many of the jackets have more layers, such as the Strength style, which includes an inner shell and outer jacket. Keep in mind that some of the less expensive jackets include only the outer shell or inner liner. However, if you buy a "gently used" jacket, like those sold through Play It Again Sports, you can find adult sizes for less than $100 and children's jackets much cheaper.
