Men's Running Pants Review

Men's Running Pants Review

What To Look For

Fit is one of the most important factors in men's running pants. Pants that are too baggy will bog you down, while pants that are too tight will restrict movement. Make sure to pick pants that fit the climate, with heavier fabrics and even an outer shell for cold and inclement weather. You also want a fabric that breathes such as a polyester and spandex mix with mesh vents or side stripes. Another key feature is an elastic waistband with a drawstring for pants that stay in place. Helpful extras include zippers at the ankles to taper the fit and small zippered pockets or a small, inside pouch for keys and other essentials.

Common Pitfalls

One of the most common complaints for men's running pants is the lack of breathability, especially with pants that have an outer nylon or protective shell. Some pants might seem fine for short runs but can turn you into a cold and clammy mess if you begin to sweat and the pants lack adequate aeration. Those who perspire heavily might want to check out pants that tote a moisture-wicking fabric that quickly pulls perspiration from your skin and to the pants' surface where it can evaporate. Drawstrings are another must for some, even with an elastic waistband, as pants might need extra incentive to stay in place during a run.

Where To Buy

Many sporting good stores and some department stores often have an adequate selection of men's running pants. Check out local locations or order from their websites.

Cost

Expect to spend at least $50 as of September 2009 for a quality pair of men's running pants, with prices rising from there depending on brand name and options. Those with moisture-wicking fabrics will be a bit more costly but well worth the investment.
