Review of Coleman Two Man Tents

Review of Coleman Two Man Tents

What To Look For

Coleman offers three two-person tents in 2009. In three-season tents, you'll find the Hooligan 2 and the Sundome 7' x 5'. Coleman's four-season two-man is the Helios X2. All of their two-man tents weigh in around the seven- to nine-pound range packed, making them light enough for backpacking, but not ultralight by any means. The Hooligan is Coleman's higher-end, three-season, two-man tent featuring the WeatherTec System, which includes features such as leak-free seams and a stronger, wind-resistant frame. The Sundome is an inexpensive, entry-level tent that also includes WeatherTec. All three tents are double-wall tents with included rain flies, and the Hooligan 2 backpacking tent features a full mesh body for maximum ventilation. The Hooligan 2 features a one-pole system for quick set-up, while the Sundome utilizes two poles; both tents use fiberglass poles. The Helios X2 uses four Yunan Atlas Scandium poles, along with multiple guyout points for extra strength. The Helios X2 also uses dual doors and vestibules for added comfort/storage space.

Common Pitfalls

Don't assume that because you are camping with two people that a two-man tent will be large enough. Remember that you may have gear to stow in the tent in addition to campers and it may be more comfortable to opt for a three- or four-person Coleman tent. To make sure that the tent offers ample interior space, shop in person at an authorized dealer near you. Pitch the tent first, size it out hands-on, then purchase accordingly.

Where To Buy

Coleman tents are available at a variety of retailers including Target and Dick's Sporting Goods. You can also purchase the tents online at Coleman's website. Many camping and outdoor sporting-goods stores carry Coleman products as well. Coleman also has a network of outlet stores in various states around the country including New York, Colorado and Tennessee.

Cost

Coleman is known for its moderately-priced tent offerings. As far as its 2009 two-man line, you'll pay anywhere from $50 for the Sundome to $360 for the Helios X2. Those are retail prices.

Accessories

In addition to tents, Coleman offers a full line of tent accessories including fans, tent lights, organizers and tools. You can likely take care of most of your camping needs on Coleman's website.
