Wider than the conventional Exped 7.5 AirMat, this AirMat 7.5 Pump Deluxe Air Mattress features an integrated foot pump that's easy to inflate on backpacking trips or out in the (heated) family cabin ski bunkroom. While you might consider an ordinary air mattress foot pump hard, unyielding, Exped built this patented pump with a foam lining so it doubles as a low-profile pillow. Like the standard 7.5 AirMat, the Exped AirMat 7.5 Pump Deluxe has a thickness of over three inches, so it adds plenty of cushion, moderate insulation. The big advantage that the AirMat 7.5 Pump Deluxe Mat has over Exped's self-inflating ComfortFoam Mats is the substantial weight savings--even including pump weight. Keep in mind that Exped recommends using AirMats in warm weather conditions like summer backpacking. If you're camping on an ice field or climbing in the early spring or late fall, you'll feel warmer on the insulated mattress found in Exped's DownMat collection.
I just came back from a 80 mile backpacking trip in NM. I have never slept so good at night. It worked so well that it took several nights to get used to my bed at home.
I am a professional guide year round and when I got my airmat I loved it for about a week. After that it would leak air and I would be sleeping on the ground. I always took special care of it so it would not get any punctures or holes but it would loose air more and more each night. I sent it back to the store and the next one they sent did the same thing in about 2 weeks. I do not recommend this airmat to anyone unless they like inflating it 3 or 4 times a night.
I bought this air pad for a weeklong bike ride across Iowa where the gear would be hauled by truck. It worked well for two nights, then one of the pillow/pumps failed and that was the end of it. I spent several hours trying to repair it, then pitched it in the trash.
Bought 2 of these sleeping pads a month ago and used them for the first time on a BSA campout. Very comfortable and compact. Air pump in the pillow worked well too.
You have two options to inflate it...and it gave me 5 nights of good sleep...looking at getting another one...
Bought it originally for my wife but thought I'd give it a try during a winter snow trip. Inflated surprisingly fast with just 4 or 5 puffs of air per side. Took a little longer for the pillow pump to expand because it was just out of the box, but worked better later. It fit in my OR Alpine Bivy and I was very pleased with the comfort. I'm a side sleeper and usually wake up with an ache or a little numbness in my shoulders, but I didn't experience that with this pad. Guess I'll have to buy my wife another one...
