Geography
Acadia National Park surrounds Bar Harbor, which is located on the east side of Mount Desert Island.
Terrain
Granite cliffs can be found next to sand and cobblestone beaches. In addition, meadows and marshes provide a lush contrast to the deep blue lakes that snake through mountain valleys.

Bar Harbor offers many outdoor activities such as biking, camping, canoeing/kayaking, cross-country skiing, sailing, hiking, golf and whale watching.

A variety of accommodations are available, from rustic campsites to plush suites overlooking the ocean. Many historic cottages have been converted to modern bed and breakfasts, inns, guest houses and inns.
Dining
While fresh lobster and seafood are plentiful, pasta, poultry, soup and salad are also offered at many local restaurants. In addition, quaint pubs and breweries provide a casual meal and atmosphere.
Getting There
A high-speed ferry from Nova Scotia carries passengers to Bar Harbor in 2 1/2 hours. The area can be accessed by boat, car or plane.
