About Satellite TV Service for RVs

Christine Bauer: Brian Brawdy's Green RV MotoSAT HDTV Satellite

A recreational vehicle is the preferred option for many who enjoy spending time outdoors but don't want to give up the creature comforts of home, including their favorite television shows. Satellite television systems today are compact, mobile and use the same service providers as many home networks.

Function

Satellite TV service gives RVers hundreds of channels of television to watch from almost anywhere.

Benefits

Satellite TV service offers RVs the ability to watch TV while driving down the road, or stationary at their favorite campground without relying on a cable hookup.

Types

RV satellite TV service providers include Dish Network and DirecTV; both charge a monthly fee for service.

Features

There are two types of antenna for installing satellite dishes on an RV to receive TV service. Automatic is generally more expensive, adjusts the dish toward the satellite and typically mounts on the roof. Manual dishes mount on a tripod and require the user to point the dish in the direction of the satellite.

Considerations

Proper installation of equipment for use of satellite TV on your RV requires wiring into your RV's electrical system and set up through your service provider.
