Travel to England Visa Requirement

Travel to England Visa Requirement
England is a wonderful country to visit, with a thriving pub scene, scenic countryside and historic villages. While England is not a member of the European Union, travel and visa requirements for Europeans are less strict than for other nationalities.

Passport

A passport is required for legal entry into the United Kingdom, including England, for travelers from the United States, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Travelers are then entitled to a six-month stay with no work permission.

Europeans

England gives special status to members of a European Economic Area country, which is any resident of a country belonging to the European Union, European Community or European Free Trade Association. Citizens of these nations do not need to furnish any paperwork and can stay in England for an indefinite period of time.

Student Visa

Students must apply for a Tier 4 visa, otherwise known as a student class. Students will be asked to provide proof that they can financially support themselves during their intended period of study.

Work Visa

English border officials are very strict about requiring work visas from those intending to work during their time in England. Those hoping to work must apply for a Tier 1 visa and be able to prove English language proficiency.

Where to Apply

As of 2009, English visa officials prefer online applications, accessible via the UK Visa Agency website. Applications are in English only.
