Air Travel Stress

Air Travel Stress
When planning a trip to the trails and other areas of outdoor activity, flying is sometimes the only option. Packing can pose problems with the Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) rules and regulations regarding sharp instruments, flammable and other liquid or gas substances. Getting to and from your destination can prove more difficult because some necessary supplies might have to be purchased on arrival. But many sporting good items can be checked as baggage.

Preparation

Preparing for an outdoor adventure often requires a fair amount of gear. Tents, backpacks, cooking supplies, rod and reels can be a few of the necessary items to bring. Thoughtful preparation, especially when flying, can reduce air travel stress and save big bucks at baggage check-in.

Check-In

To further eliminate air travel stress, check with your carrier before airport arrival regarding any flight delays and luggage requirements. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), individual carriers have varying policies regarding size and special item limitations for baggage.

Permitted Items

Most sports-related and camping items are allowed, including guns. Bow and arrows, spear guns, ski poles, BB, air and pellet guns are some of the items permitted in checked baggage. Camp stoves are considered for carry-on luggage with some restrictions.

Prohibited Items

All flammable materials, animal repellents, flares and ammunition are not permitted in carry-on or stowed luggage.

Considerations

Knowing restrictions associated with air travel can keep you from having to surrender items at security checkpoints. This will help reduce stress before your flight.
