Travel Rules for International Flights to Germany

Travel Rules for International Flights to Germany
Traveling to and from Germany isn't complicated, but travelers need to keep a few rules in mind before embarking on a trip abroad.

Travel Rules for International Flights to Germany

With a population of over 82 million and a long and rich history, Germany--especially Berlin--is becoming a popular tourist landing spot. Travelers should keep these rules in mind when planning a trip to Deutschland.

Necessities

Bear in mind that the only valid form of identification for boarding an international flight to Germany is a passport; no driver's licenses are accepted as forms of identification. Therefore, travelers should plan on carrying their passports with them at all times during international flights in and out of Germany.

Time Frame

Plan on preparing for a trip to Germany at least three months in advance. The United States government strongly recommends registering a trip to Germany with a U.S. embassy or consulate before embarking on a trip abroad in case of emergencies. Visas are available for students, tourists and business people in Germany. A stay of less than 90 days in Germany requires no visa.

Location of Embassies in Germany

Seek out American embassies and consulates in Berlin, Bremen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, in Hamburg, Leipzig and Munich.

Considerations

According to the International Office at Boise State University, obtaining a passport can take up to 12 weeks to receive. Apply for it well in advance of a trip abroad. A passport--which will remain valid for 90 days after a trip--is required for extended stays. Leave at least two empty pages at the back of the passport for visa stamps.

Embassy Fun Facts

The American Embassy in Berlin is located at Pariser Platz near the Brandenburg Gate and the Kennedys Museum.
