Baggage Fees
While Southwest Airlines does not charge for up to two (2) pieces of regular, checked baggage, overweight items from 51 to 100 pounds and over-sized items in excess of 62 inches--yet not more than 80 inches--will incur a charge. Items such as large golf bags, surfboards, bicycles and skis fall into this category.
Sports Equipment
SCUBA gear can be checked at no charge with other luggage, but it will count towards the two bag limit. Additional fees will only be charged if the items are considered over-sized.
Passenger Size
Passengers must be able to sit comfortably in the seat, with both arm rests lowered and no other intrusion into adjacent seats. If this isn't possible, the passenger must purchase a second seat.
Fun Fact
Although Southwest allows parachutes as carry-on luggage, it cannot be worn during the flight.
Warning
Guns can be included in checked baggage, but they must be stored in a hard-sided, locked container and declared to the ticket agent upon check in. You cannot check in at the curbside if declaring a gun.
Check In
Ticketed passengers can check in at the ticket counter or with a Skycap up to four hours prior to the scheduled flight departure, but they must check in at the gate if there is less than twenty minutes until departure.
