International Air Travel Regulations

International Air Travel Regulations
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is in charge of the Transportation Security Administration. The TSA is a combination of security officers, inspectors, directors, air marshals and managers that work together to protect America's transportation system. The U.S. Department of State also strives to protect the country. The Travel Department of the U.S. Department of State and the TSA has established air travel regulations that help to keep international travel safe.

Pack Accordingly

Carry-on luggage is subject to strict regulations. Consolidate bottles into 1 clear, quart-sized bag per person. All bottles should be 3.4 for ounces or less by volume.

Identification

All international travelers must have a valid U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card with an expiration date at least six month or more from the travel date. You must also bring your driver's license or state identification.

Prohibited Items

Several items are prohibited on international flights. These items include sharp objects, sporting goods, gun and firearms, tools, martial arts and self defense items, explosives, flammable materials and other dangerous items.

Country Specific Requirements

Many countries require that you meet specific requirements before entering the country. These requirements can include immunizations, documents and registration. Check with the Department of State before traveling to ensure that you meet the requirements.

Baggage Locks

Baggage locks are only permitted if the lock meets the TSA requirements. The only acceptable locks are Safe Skies Luggage Locks and Travel Sentry Locks. All other locks are subject to being cut.

Re-Entry

All U.S. citizens must provide proof citizenship in order to re-enter the U.S. This should be in the form of a U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card.
