What Food to Pack for Camping

You do not have to spend a lot of money on expensive dehydrated meals to eat in the outdoors. You can create a basic shopping list for camping, including essential meal supplies, sandwich fixings, drinks, condiments and snacks.

Food Basics

Pack cereal and milk, pancake mix or instant oatmeal for breakfast. For a simple dinner, pack hot dogs, hamburgers and buns.

Sandwich Items

Purchase bread, peanut butter, jelly, deli meat and cheese for an easy lunch. Sandwiches pack well for bike rides and day trips to the beach.

Beverages and Drinks

Before you go, find out if water is available at your campsite. If not, pack ample water for your drinking, cooking and washing needs. Drink mixes such as Tang, Kool-Aid or electrolyte packets are great for camping.

Condiments

Pack salt, pepper and desired seasonings. Ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard are a must for campfire hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.

Snack Foods

Granola bars, dried fruit and trail mix make great snacks when camping. Also pack snacks to prepare around the campfire such as graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows for s'mores.
