Custer State Park Camping Information
There are 71,000 acres within the boundaries of Custer State Park in South Dakota. Camping is one of the many activities that visitors enjoy. There are several campgrounds that can be utilized.

Blue Bell

The Blue Bell campground has 35 sites, with flush toilets, showers and a telephone. The site is within an hour's drive of Mount Rushmore and close to the Blue Bell Lodge.

Sylvan Lake

The Sylvan Lake campground has the highest elevation of any site within Custer State Park at 6,100 feet. The lake provides opportunities to swim and fish; the site is not set up to handle larger type tents or big RVs.

Stockade Lake North

Hiking, fishing and boating are some of the activities that those who frequent the Stockade Lake North Campground participate in. This 43-site campground as a playground and is in the western portion of the park.

Grace Coolidge

There is a section reserved only for tents across from the 27-site Grace Coolidge Campground. Most of the sites are in the shade, which comes in handy during the hot South Dakota summers.

Legion Lake

Legion Lake campground is the smallest in the park with 26 sites. One of its features is a handicap-accessible fishing dock on the lake, which has a beach for bathers.
