Geography
The Citrus County area consists of Crystal River, Floral City, Homosassa and Inverness. Water-sports enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as snorkeling, diving, boating and fishing. Snorkelers can explore underwater plant life, marine life and artificial reefs while anglers can cast for freshwater and saltwater game fish. Marinas to visit include Pete's Pier in Crystal River and Homosassa River Marinas in Homosassa for boating services, fishing equipment and guided fishing trips.
Artificial Reefs
Citrus County Aquatic Services is in charge of establishing the county's artificial reef sites. The county makes deployments consisting of materials such as concrete poles, Lincoln logs, boulders, culverts and bridge material to construct artificial reefs. Access points are located at Fort Island Gulf Park located in Crystal River, Fort Island Gulf Beach, Barge Canal and Mac Rae's in Homosassa.
Fishing Hot Spots
The waters of Homosassa, Crystal River and Inverness teem with game fish species such as trout, cobia, redfish, tarpon and grouper, according to the Citrus County Visitors and Convention Bureau. The Tsala Apopka lake chain in Inverness is a hot spot for productive largemouth bass fishing. If you prefer species such as bluegill, redfish and spotted sunfish, cast your rods in the lower Withlacoochee River in Citrus Springs.
