Significance
Discounted camping opens the opportunity for less expensive trips and vacations for the disabled and seniors, helping households or individuals who typically make less money than fully-employed households take advantage of low cost camping trips.
Coverage
All but one of the state parks in Mississippi gives discounts for older or disabled campgrounds. As of October 2010, Buccaneer State Park does not offer any kind of discounts for campers or visitors. The Percy Quin State Park has campsites for tents on Lake Tangipahoa where campers can swim, boat or bicycle.
Identification
Campers qualifying for the discounts must show a legal form of identification, like a driver's license or proof of disability. Campers must be 65 or older for the senior discount. The disabled must show proof from the Social Security Administration that they are 100 percent disabled. LeFleur's Bluff in Jackson, Mississippi, has a golf course and seniors do not receive discounts for play at this course.
