The Beginning
Giovanni Pinarello, one of 12 brothers, was born in 1922 in Catena di Villorba in Italy. He found a love for the bike as a means to get around his farming community.
Cycling Career
Giovanni began racing bikes as a junior at age 17, often borrowing clothing and bike parts just to race. Pinarello became a pro cyclist in 1947 and retired in 1953 to focus on bike building.
The First Bikes
Pinarello was building his own bikes as early as the age of 15 following the footsteps of his cousin Alessandro.
First Team Use
In 1957, La Padovani became the first pro team to use Pinarello bikes. Mainetti was the first team Pinarello sponsored in 1960. Six years later, Pinarello had its first pro victory by Guido de Rosso at the Tour de l'Avenir.
Making History
Tour de France stage wins and overalls, gold medals and world championship titles have all been accomplished on Pinarello bikes. Riders Miguel Indurain and Mario Cipollini helped grow the Pinarello brand from just steel bikes to the aluminum and carbon bikes sold today.
