Located near Lake Tahoe, Reno, Nevada is a town that offers gambling and outdoor adventure in one tidy package. It is well-developed for visitors, and offers a wide range of accommodation options.

Casinos

As the No. 2 gaming town in Nevada, there are plenty of casinos in Reno, and most are hotel-casinos in the style of Las Vegas. (Click the link in Resources below.)

Chain Accommodations

Reno naturally has a large number of chain hotels and motels, as well as independents. Examples include Best Western, the Holiday Inn and Motel 6.

Bed and Breakfasts

There are a few B&B options in the Reno area, including the charming "B" Street House and the rustic setting of the Seven Mile Canyon Ranch. (Click the links in Resources below.)

Private Campground

The Reno area's main privately operated campground is a KOA. This has all the features one would expect from a facility in the KOA chain: swimming pool, playground, laundry, showers, RV hook-ups and wireless Internet.

Public Campgrounds

There are a wide range of public campgrounds in the Reno and Lake Tahoe area, which are part of either the Nevada or the California state park systems. Most of these will accommodate both tents and RVs and have a few facilities such as dump stations and running water, although not all the RV sites have RV hookups.

Rentals

There are a handful of agencies that deal in renting houses, apartments, or cabins in the Reno area, which may prove useful for those planning a longer-than-normal stay.
