Hiking Clubs in Spokane, Washington

Spokane, Washington is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts to convene and organize outings on the surrounding trails. There are at least four clubs based in Spokane that offer group hikes which take place near Spokane, or other parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

Spokane Mountaineers

Founded in 1915, this organization that offers annual schools and clinics and its members frequently organize hikes, climbs, bike rides, ski trips, and backpacking trips among other things. Members must be 15 years of age or older.

The Backpacking Club

Founded in 1994, this nonprofit co-op is volunteer-run and organizes hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing and educational trips, as well as an annual leadership seminar. Members take turns leading trips and organizing outings. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

Hobnailers, Inc.

Part of the Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs, this organization was established in 1951 and is run by eight board members annually. Activities include day hikes, backpacking, and in-town social events.

Sierra Club Inner City Outings Spokane

This is a community-based outreach program founded in 1971 that provides opportunities for urban youth to experience and explore the natural world. ICO activities are run entirely by volunteers and include hikes and other activities which promote team building skills, self esteem and nonviolent alternatives to drugs, alcohol and boredom.

Inland Northwest Trails Coalition

This organization promotes non-motorized recreation in inland Northwest areas including Spokane, as well as to preserve and protect natural habitat. They organize community trails events and are working to develop a regional trail classification system among many other goals.
