Harnesses
Climbing companies like Petzle and Black Diamond make harnesses for kids. Waist harnesses for older kids and full-body harnesses for the smallest climbers keep kids safe while roped up.
Shoes
Climbing shoes have sticky rubber soles to help kids up the rock. Madrock, La Sportiva and Five Ten all make kids' climbing shoes.
Indoor Gyms
Indoor climbing gyms offer kids climbing activities. Birthday parties and summer camps let kids have fun and gain climbing skills.
Outdoor Climbing
Kids can climb safely outdoors under the guidance of a professional rock guide or through camps that offer an outdoor climbing program. Instructors can be certified through a nationally recognized climbing organization, such as the American Mountain Guides Association.
Competitions
Kids who want to commit to training can participate in climbing competitions. The International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation sanctions climbing competitions around the world.
