Orange Beach, Alabama State Park
Alabama has a narrow stretch of Gulf of Mexico coastline, so only one facility in the state park system offers undeveloped beaches, Gulf State Park. Situated next to Orange Beach, Ala., the park provides outdoors lovers beach fun without the clutter of bars and high-rise hotels.

Location

Gulf State Park's entrance is only 1 mile from the outskirts of Orange Beach, although the center of the park is 5 miles away.

Geography

The state park encompasses 6,150 acres and has 2 miles of beachfront on the Gulf of Mexico. The park also includes Shelby Lake, Middle Lake and Little Lake.

Operating Hours

Gulf State Park's day-use area is open from 7 a.m. until sunset year-around, while the fishing pier within the park is open 24 hours a day.

Activities

In addition to its beach fun and fishing, the park hosts geocaching, birding, hiking trails, tennis and an 18-hole golf course.

Accommodations

Twenty one- and two-bedroom rental cabins and 11 three-bedroom rental cottages are situated around the golf course and Middle Lake. The park also has a 496-site campground.
