A one-day license applies to fishermen 16 years of age or older.
Game Options
A one-day California fishing license permits a fisherman to take fish, mollusks, crustaceans, invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles. Certain species require additional permits.
Where to Buy
Licenses may be bought online or in person at a California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) branch. Additional license agents can be searched for on the DFG's website as well.
Free Fishing Days
To forgo the cost of a license, the Department of Fish and Game offers two Free Fishing Days a year. These days usually coincide with with Independence Day and Labor Day. Check with the California Department of Fish and Game for current dates.
