Temperature
Temperature extremes are rare in London. January is generally the coldest month, with an average daily high of 43 degrees. In July, the daily high temperature averages a comfortable 72 degrees. However, the occasional summer heat wave does occur.
Rain
London has a reputation for being damp. On average, rain falls between 11 and 15 per month. Despite the frequency of precipitation, however, total annual rainfall is only about 29 inches--less than some other cities, including New York and Rome.
Sunshine
While light showers are frequent, it's very common for the sun to come out after the rain stops. June is the brightest month, averaging seven hours of sunshine.
Snow
Significant snowfall or freezing rain are very rare in London.
Fog
London was once famous (or infamous) for its fog. The "pea-soupers" of the past were actually caused by pollution, not weather. The Clean Air Act in the 1950s alleviated this problem by discouraging the use of open coal hearth fires.
