Significance
Flying when you have a sinus infection can be a painful experience. According to Jennifer Hall, a wellness expert, air travel with a sinus infection has been known to cause mild to serious side effects.
Effects
The more common side effects are vertigo, ringing in the ears, nausea and further infection.
Prevention/Solution
Over-the-counter or natural sinus remedies are recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to stave off most side effects. Also, saline nasal sprays can keep nasal dryness from occurring.
Considerations
When flying with a sinus infection, your condition could worsen because of germs inside the cabin. Furthermore, if your condition is serious enough, other travelers could also become ill.
Potential
The CDC suggests a person suffering from a severe sinus infection might want to postpone air travel to avoid pain and possible injury. If the lowered cabin pressure cannot be stabilized in your ear and nasal passage, your ear drum could possibly rupture.
