Time Frame
Bass fishing occurs year-round in Florida, but the best time to catch bass is in the spring when they are spawning. March and April are usually the best months to catch bass. The largest fish are usually caught toward the end of April and May.
Choices
With 7,600 fresh water lakes in Florida, and with an abundance of fish, choosing where to fish may be difficult. Several lakes and streams near Panama City provide great fishing opportunities.

Deer Point Lake, seven miles north of Panama City, is listed as one of the top bass fishing lakes in the state by the Florida Game and Fish Commission.
Types
Bass are known as fighters when hooked, which makes them more fun to catch. Largemouth bass are known for their size, and for fighting beneath the surface. Smallmouth bass tend to fight against the hook more on the surface.
