Beginning
Abu Garcia was originally a watch factory. The factory was changed to a reel factory by the founders son, Gote Borgstrom. The reel factory was opened in 1921 in Svangsta, Sweden.
Original Reels
Abu Garcia originally manufactured spinning, bait casting and rod-reel combinations. The Abu Record model was the companies original reel and was produced in 1942.
Advancing Reels
After the original Record model reel Abu Garcia began advancing the product lineup by introducing the Ambassadeur reel in 1952. The Ambassadeur has since been reproduced and refined and the reel has been represented by numerous professional anglers.
Competition
In 1965 Abu Garcia reels were leading the market and were designed to last for several family generations. The durable build was an attempt to takeover the reel market.
Competition
Abu Garcia was forced to resign from the market takeover as Penn International and other reel manufacturers maintained popularity with quality model reels.
Today
Abu Garcia continues to produce precision reels that are used by saltwater and freshwater anglers around the world. The new Revo model low profile reel is consider one of the smoothest and most comfortable reels on the market today.
