Liberty Island

Liberty Island has a land area of slightly less than 15 acres, which include paths for walking and jogging with views of New York City and the New Jersey shoreline. Grassy areas and benches are available for eating and resting.

Facts About the Statue

Construction of the statue was completed in 1886, and it was unveiled by President Grover Cleveland on October 28. The statue is slightly over 150 feet tall from base to torch, and sits on a pedestal that raises it to over 305 feet above the ground.

Battery Park is a 25-acre historic park on the southern tip of Manhattan, and is a departure point for ferries to Staten Island, Ellis Island and Liberty Island. Ferries depart for the 15-minute ride to Liberty Island from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
