Bicycles
Some airlines will accept your bicycle in lieu of one of your checked bags. As long as your bicycle is packed properly and doesn't exceed the dimension and weight restrictions, you may be able to bring it along at no extra cost. Some airlines charge a service fee of $100 to $250 for bringing along your bicycle.
Camping Equipment
Camping equipment such as tents or other easily torn or breakable materials may be checked as fragile. Lanterns, fuels and heating equipment will likely not be accepted due to airlines' dangerous goods regulations.
Fishing Equipment
Fishing equipment can be checked in lieu of one bag if the size and weight restrictions are not exceeded. Some airlines have length limitations and will not accept fishing equipment that measures more than 80 inches in length.
Golfing Equipment
Many airlines will allow one item of golf equipment as a checked back. One golf bag containing one set of clubs is defined as one item of golf equipment. The maximum weight before a charge is applied differs depending on which airline you are traveling with.
Surfboards
One to two surfboards can be checked as one piece of luggage, depending on the airline. Checking a surfboard is subject to an additional fee, typically starting at $100 per board.
