Frontier
Frontier also flies to more than 50 U.S. cities. In addition, it services San José, Colombia, and five cities in Mexico. Perks include in-flight movies and DirectTV for a nominal fee as well as sandwiches, salads and snacks available for purchase.
Spirit
Spirit touts itself as the "leading ultra-low cost carrier in the U.S." The airline serves close to 40 cities, including destinations in the Bahamas, Caribbean and Latin America. The "$9 Fare Club," available for an annual fee, allows members access to special promotions, including occasional one-cent flights.
Virgin America
Virgin America offers low-cost flights to and from 10 U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco. Passengers can enjoy free in-flight access to 3,000-plus MP3s and live TV. Drinks, snacks and meals can be ordered by touch screen and paid for by credit card. Wi-Fi access is available for a fee.
Southwest
Southwest provides no-frills, budget service to more than 60 U.S. cities. The airline also offers discounted hotel, cruise and vacation packages.
