The Raleigh-Durham International Airport is located approximately midway between the cities of Raleigh (11 miles to the southeast) and Durham (10.5 miles to the northwest) in Wake County, North Carolina. According to the airport's website, 9 million passengers traveled through the Raleigh-Durham airport in 2008.

Location

The Raleigh-Durham Airport serves what is called the Research Triangle Region which includes Duke University, North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the 7,000-acre Triangle Research Park, home to many companies.

Terminal 2 is in the second phase of a construction project to be completed in the winter of 2011. It includes three international gates with a new processing area that simplifies arrivals for international passengers. Its art and architecture are designed to represent the region's heritage.

Near the control tower, an elevated Observation Park overlooks the longest runway, allowing visitors to watch flight activity while they hear direct communication from the control tower to pilots.
