Encompassing 3,500 square miles, Yellowstone National Park offers plenty of outdoor recreation, sightseeing and wildlife viewing. It helps to know what areas of the Park you're interested in visiting--find lodging near those areas to save hours of unnecessary driving.

Areas of Yellowstone

The Park is broken down into eight sections: the Canyon, Grant Village, Lake, Madison, Mammoth, Norris, Old Faithful and Tower-Roosevelt areas. Each area offers unique features such as the world-famous geyser in the Old Faithful area.

Types of Lodging

The Park offers nine lodging facilities including the grand Old Faithful Inn, built from logs. You can also stay in rustic cabins in the Tower-Roosevelt area, or select from newer buildings, classic lodges and dormitory-style rooms such as those in Canyon Park.

Winter Lodging

Because much of the Park is closed in the winter, lodging is limited to the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins, reached by snow coach. You also can stay at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, accessible by car.

What to Expect

Because the Park accommodations focus on the scenery and recreation of the area, none of the lodging facilities offer televisions, radios, swimming pools, air conditioning or Internet access. Cell phone coverage is also very limited inside the Park, as of February 2010.

Reservations

All of the lodging in the Park requires advance reservations because the Park. Reservations are handled by Xanterra Parks & Resorts.
