Because Mexico has many opportunities to experience ecotourism. Talk to your lodge manager to point you in the direction of tour guides offering these kinds of tours.

What to Remember

Whatever you take on your tour, make sure you bring it back with you. Do not leave anything that could harm or sully the natural way of things. In other words, don't litter.

Where to Go

Ecotours include tours to exotic, secluded islands such as Holbox Island, which is northwest of Cancun, as well as through the Yucatan jungle and to the Mayan ruins.

Where to Eat

The Mayan restaurant Yaxche, in Playa del Carmen, serves authentic Mayan cuisine, native to the area. The restaurant also works with the local community, contributing to the well-being and success of the local economy.

Where to Stay

Organic Yoga is a resort in Akumal, Mexico, where yoga and meditation are taught by the owner of the resort. Hiking paths surround the resort and go through the jungle. Genesis Eco-Oasis is a lodge where guests can learn how to cook or weave with the natives.
