The Best Time to Go to Copper Canyon

The Best Time to Go to Copper Canyon
Copper Canyon is one of Mexico's most popular adventure travel destinations. The area is home to hundreds of species of wildlife and is a boon to both amateur and professional photographers alike.

Year-Round Destination

Because Copper Canyon Mexico has relatively moderate temperatures throughout the year, there really is no bad time to visit. With activities such as backpacking, climbing, photography, even lakeside lounging, Copper Canyon has something for everyone.

July to August

If you enjoy hot weather, the best time to visit would be during the months of July and August. Many people enjoy relaxing at the popular Lake Arereco. The area's scenic waterfalls are also popular at this time of year.

January to February

Rock climbers especially love this time of year as the cliff walls are considerably cooler than during the hottest months. (Temperatures seldom climb above 70.) This is also a great time to hike the more adventurous trails without having to endure the grueling summer heat.

September to April

Novice backpackers and those who just want to take in the pleasant scenery often find the months of September to April the most enjoyable. The humidity is low, and this is a good time of year for elderly visitors or those who would suffer during the higher humidity months.

Rainy Season

The rainy season runs from June to September. This is still a great time of year to visit because it provides an opportunity to photograph the local flora and fauna.

Mosquitoes

Between May and July, the canyons experience a heavy amount of rainfall. The standing water is a breeding ground for huge numbers of mosquitoes. As mosquitoes can carry disease, travelers are generally advised to avoid the canyons during these months.
