AirTrain
AirTrain is a monorail that transports passengers from one terminal to another within the airport. It is free within the airport, but an additional AirTrain fare is added to New Jersey Transit or Amtrak ticket to Newark Liberty International Airport Station.
Trains
Travelers to and from Newark Airport can take two different trains directly from the Airport station: New Jersey Transit or Amtrak. New Jersey Transit runs north to New York City and west to and south to Camden and Philadelphia. Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Train runs from Boston, Massachusetts, to Lynchburg, Virginia, with a stop at Newark Airport. PATH trains can be reached by riding New Jersey Transit or Amtrak to the PATH station, and they take passengers to Jersey City, Hoboken and Manhattan.
Buses
Very few New Jersey Transit buses run from the actual airport terminals, and as of October 2009, none run from the Newark Airport Station. Riders should visit the New Jersey Transit Trip Planner to find a bus to their destination.
Taxis
Taxi service runs from each terminal to New York or New Jersey. As of October 2009, a $5 surcharge is added to all trips into New York State (except Staten Island) on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and weekends from noon to 8 p.m. Tolls are not included in fares, and tipping is customary.
Car and Van Service
Limousines, vans and executive cars offer an alternative to public transportation from Newark Airport. They transport passengers to New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. The airport maintains a listing of services on its website as well as at a kiosk in the airport.
Rental Cars
Five car rental companies have offices on Newark Airport property as of October 2009. Passengers should take AirTrain to either Station P2 or Station P3 to reserve a rental car.
