Smithville, Texas, is a part of the central-eastern section of the state known as the Lost Pines region. Visitors to this area can explore multiple state parks and a historic railroad museum and park.

Riverbend Park

Riverbend Park is situated along the Colorado River. In addition to the park's outdoor recreational offerings, visitors can spend the night at the park's campground. A fishing pier and playground are available for visitor enjoyment year-round.

Railroad Park

The Railroad Historical Park features authentic railroad cars from the old Missouri to Texas route of the Union Pacific railroad. Visitors can tour the Katy Depot and park gazebo daily. No admission is charged to tour the railroad museum. A picnic and playground area is also available.

Buescher State Park

Nearly 2,000 acres of scenic green space along Lake Buescher attract visitors to Buescher State Park. Camping and RV spaces are available.

Lake Buescher

Lake Buescher is located in Buescher State Park, adjacent to Bastrop State Park. Fishing, a nature center and hiking trails are among the amenities at this Smithville attraction.

Bastrop State Park, a state park in the Lost Pines region, offers picnic areas and miles of hiking trails.
