The geography of the Hawaiian islands is like none other in the world. When you take an air tour, you are able to see for yourself all of the interesting topography and lush scenes from a different point of view.
The six islands offer distinct viewpoints and adventures in the air.
Time Frame
According to AdventureMaui.com, "morning is typically the clearest time of the day and clouds are less of a factor." Slots for air tours can book up quickly; make your reservations early for your chosen air activity.
Eco-Friendly Tours
Flying the skies of the Hawaiian islands offers you the chance to see the beauty of the islands and leave a smaller footprint on the land. Many places you visit will not be available to you on foot, allowing the land to be naturally preserved in its original state.
Safety
Air tour companies are concerned about the safety of their passengers. Pilots must be trained yearly by the FAA. Many companies also offer additional training on-site for pilots and mechanics, sending them to the factories where the small aircraft or helicopters are manufactured. Look for air tour companies that participate in the Tour Operators Program of Safety, whose mission "is to provide the public with access to scenic areas while in the care of good, safe and professional air tour operators."
Movies and TV
Several movies and television shows have been filmed on the Hawaiian islands, including "Jurassic Park," "Tropic Thunder," "Pirates of the Caribbean III" and the popular television drama "Lost."
