The Imperial Palace is in central Tokyo---in the Chiyoda district, close to the Tokyo train station.
History
The Imperial Palace was built in 1888 on the former site of Edo Castle.
Features
Visitors can see ancient kimonos and Japanese paintings in the palace's Museum of the Imperial Collection, and can stroll through the Kita-no-maru park on the north side---where concerts are often held.
Activities
The surroundings of the Imperial Palace---a water-filled moat and grounds covered with trees---make for a pleasant walking area, and a welcome respite from hectic central Tokyo.
Time Frame
During spring-time, the Chiyodori-ga-fuchi moat near the palace's gardens is one of the most popular spots in Tokyo for cherry blossom viewing.
