Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is less than 20 miles from the center of Downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The airport is managed by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, which also manages several other local airports.

History

Jacksonville voters approved a $9 billion bond to fund the construction and development of Jacksonville International Airport in 1965. The airport opened for business in 1968. It reached the 2 million passenger milestone in 1982.

Recent Renovations

Jacksonville International Airport underwent a $100 million renovation in 1990, adding a new terminal with 12 gates and a multilevel parking garage. In 2000, the airport added amenities to its terminals and tripled its parking capacity to 2,400 spaces.

Jacksonville International Airport provides service from more than a dozen air carriers, including major airlines such as Delta, Southwest, American Airlines, JetBlue and Continental.

More than 200 arrivals and departures come through Jacksonville International Airport on a single day. The airport provides service to more than 6 million travelers annually.

Jacksonville International Airport has many amenities including popular restaurants such as Quizno's, Cinnabon's, Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs, Burger King and Budweiser Stadium Club. The airport also offers a fantastic shopping experience; It is home to 10 retailers. It also offers a 24-hour pet lounge, game room and flower shop.
