Mobility
The biggest advantage of wireless hotspots is that they allow the user to connect to the Internet to check emails or send files from a variety of locations.
Productivity
With increased mobility comes increased productivity.
Connectivity
Hotspot connectivity is close to the speed of land lines. This depends on the user's proximity to the hotspot device. Most wireless hotspot devices will get 24 megabits per second, which is a fast speed for a wireless connection, but not as fast as a land line.
Range
Wireless hotspots do not offer the kind of range that is sometimes needed. A Blackberry connecting to the Iinternet via the cell phone signal will give you more range than the same device connected to a wireless hotspot. Most devices--computers, cell phones--that pick up wireless signals must be within 20 yards of the wireless hotspot device. Whereas Blackberries can connect to the Blackberry network anywhere they would normally get cell phone service.
Speed
The speed of a wireless hotspot is not yet comparable to wired Internet, however with the change in technology the speed can be nearly as fast in some cases.
