Snow Season
Snow typically begins to fall in October in Crater Lake National Park and can remain on the ground through June. While this results in excellent skiing and snowshoeing, driving is difficult, with an average of 10 to 15 feet of snow on the ground at any one time during winter.
Snowfall
The greatest annual snowfall accumulation at Crater Lake was the 69.5 feet that fell in the winter of 1932 through 1933. The deepest measured snow on the ground at one time was 21 feet, recorded April 3, 1983.
Temperature
The winter temperatures at Crater Lake National Park range from highs of about 35 degrees to lows of about 19 degrees. In the summer, the daytime highs average about 67 degrees but the temperature can reach 80 degrees, with nighttime lows falling into the 30s.
Thunderstorms
Thunderstorms can rip through the park from July through September, bringing high winds and dangerous lightning.
