Netherlands Car Rentals

Netherlands Car Rentals
The Netherlands is located in Northwestern Europe, bordering the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south and Germany to the east. Amsterdam is the Netherlands' capital and largest city. Outdoor activities in the Netherlands include walking and biking in its tulip-filled parks and gardens, surfing, sailing or fishing at the sea coast, hiking in the forests and golfing. If you choose to explore the Netherlands by car, renting a car is an option.

Transportation

As typical in European countries, the public transportation system in the Netherlands is vast, efficient and reliable. The Dutch road system is also well maintained and accessible for car travel.

Requirements

A driver license issued by a state of the European Union, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, is valid in the Netherlands. Drivers from other countries are encouraged to have an international driver's permit issued in their country before they drive in the Netherlands. Minimum age to rent a car in the Netherlands varies per company, usually 21 to 23.

Locations

You can rent a car in the Netherlands in all major cities and at the airport.

Types of Cars

You can choose from an economy, compact, mid size, standard, full size or luxury car. Both standard and automatic transmission cars are available, with higher rates for the latter. RVs are also available by some companies.

Terms

Daily and weekly car rental rates are available by most rental agencies. Rates are for unlimited mileage, and do not include fuel costs. Additional insurance may be required.

Considerations

If your visit to the Netherlands is centered on big cities, hiring a car is not recommended because of the heavy traffic and high fees for parking.
