Branson, Missouri is the Midwest's answer to the excitement of Broadway district's entertainment complex in New York City. The area also offers beautiful fall foliage and outdoor sporting activities, plus enough hotel rooms and restaurants to suit all travelers.

History

Branson is a vacation destination spot in Missouri, taking its name from Rueben Branson, who operated a general store in the area in the 1880s. According to Branson's website, almost 8 million visitors travel to Branson every year.

Weather

Located on Lake Taneycomo, Branson offers a mild climate year-round. The winter temperatures average around 45 degrees, with summer a warm but enjoyable 87. In the fall, Branson averages 75 degrees. Spring temperatures average 66. The wettest month of the year is May, averaging 5 inches of rainfall.

Indoor Activities

There are 200 hotel accommodations with more than 100,000 rooms, plus 400 restaurants and more theater seats than the Broadway district in New York City. The "Live Musical Capital of the World" offers 100 shows, ranging from "The Redneck Tenors" to "Acrobats of China" in 50 theaters.

Outdoor Activities

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy touring Branson for its 200 miles of hiking, horseback and bicycle trails. Fishing, canoeing, golf and kayaking are also popular outdoor activities.

Parks and Recreation

Branson has 16 parks covering more than 290 acres of trails. The RecPlex includes a 12,000-square-foot aquatics center with water slides.
