About JetBlue Baggage Requirements

About JetBlue Baggage Requirements
Among JetBlue's many innovations is a customer bill of rights that promises compensation for overbooking, canceled flights and departure delays. To avail yourself of these benefits, follow a few, simple baggage requirements.
Check the baggage requirements BEFORE getting to the airport.

You can take on board one carry-on that fits in the overhead bin and one personal item that fits under the seat in front of you. The former must be no bigger than 26 by 18 by 12 inches and the latter must be smaller than 18 by 15 by 8 inches.

Check-In

You can check one bag for free; it must be no heavier than 50 pounds and no bigger than 62 inches when length, width and height are added together.

Fees

A second bag costs $30 as of October 2009. Excess baggage charges start at $50 for weight and $75 for size. Bags over 99 pounds and 80 inches are prohibited.

Sports Gear

In general, sports gear such as fishing rods, snowboards and water skis are free, if they fall under your checked-in baggage allowance. Bicycles, surfboards and windsurfing equipment incur an extra charge. See Resources for more information.

Procedure

You must check your bags at least 30 minutes before departure on domestic flights and 60 minutes before international ones. JetBlue does not accept baggage for passengers who are not aboard the aircraft.
