Speed
One of the fastest growing trends in Spain train travel is high-speed trains. AVE is the main line for these trains, and it's continuously adding more high-speed lines to the existing network. AVE takes you from Madrid to Seville in only two-and-a-half hours.
International
Overnight trains are a popular way to travel across countries in Europe. Talgo is one of the best lines for traveling from other countries, such as France, to Spain.
Passes
The cheapest way to enjoy Spain rail travel is to purchase a Eurail Pass. This pass is purchased in increments of days of travel. Keep in mind that a Eurail Pass does not guarantee you a seat on a train, so arrive early.

The most popular lines in Spain are Renfe and Rail Europe. These train lines travel through all major cities and most smaller villages.
Tickets
Purchase tickets online (see Resources) or at the train station (at the ticket counter or vending machines). Keep in mind that in smaller stations you are less likely to find attendants who speak English.
