Location
Because of its location in northern Europe, Sweden experiences short summers and long winters. However, high mountains along the western border with Norway protect against strong winds and severe storms from the Atlantic Ocean.
Summer
Summers tend to be mild, and variances between northern and southern locations may be great. According to SouthTravels.com, temperatures in July range from approximately 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. However, temperatures may become cold and unpleasant for several days at a time.
Winter
The east coast, especially in the northeast, tends to be very cold in the winter due to freezing in the Baltic Sea. Furthermore, most of the country will suffer extended periods of freezing winter conditions that require sufficient winter gear.
Rainfall
Rainfall levels are typically low throughout the year. The BBC records higher levels of precipitation during the summer and in areas of high elevation. While frequent drizzle is known in Sweden, mild conditions rarely lead to heavy precipitation.
Sunlight
Sweden latitude ranges from 55 degrees north to 69 degrees north. The BBC reports that north of the Arctic Circle, 66 degrees north or above, there are 24 hours of sunlight in midsummer and 24 hours of darkness in midwinter.
