Happy Campers
Who would have thought you could take the whole family on a Disney vacation for $43 per night, as of 2009? Disney's Fort Wilderness in Florida offers four types of campsites on 700 acres filled with miles of trails. Pitch a tent or rent a cabin. You can fish in the canals that run through the property (catch and release) and enjoy the wildlife that roams free.
Nature With Turndown Service
You don't need to sleep outdoors to enjoy it. Disney offers accommodations raging from rustic to exotic that are in close proximity to outdoor activities. Visit wildlife preserves, Ocala National Forest and Canaveral National Seashore, where you can access the 24 miles of beach and walking loops for $1.
Tee Up and Take a Hike
Disney offers six golf courses with greens fees from $38 on up. Its Oak Trail course is truly an old-fashioned hike on the links, as golf carts are not available.
A Unique Diving Experience
Disney provides a rare experience that allows you to observe sea life in a traditional aquarium setting, then scuba dive with those same underwater creatures. Epcot's DiveQuest makes you part of the attraction.
They've Done the Homework
Disney surveyed 2,000 moms and compiled a list of the best outdoor vacation spots in the United States, many of which are free to enjoy. These are not Disney packages, but simply family destinations they recommend. For more information, visit family.go.com/travel/pkg-outdoor-adventure-vacations.
