Sold to New York City for $60,000 in 1835, Randall's Island is one of Manhattan's primary recreational facilities. Among its many features, the island boasts waterfront pathways along its shoreline'perfect for scenic walks, jogs or bicycling jaunts.

Location

Randall's Island is in the Borough of Manhattan between East Harlem, the South Bronx and Astoria, Queens. It is surrounded by the East River.

Facilities

The 480-acre island features Icahn Stadium, a world-class IAAF-sanctioned track and field facility, a soccer field, tennis and golf centers, ferry dock, bicycle trails, picnic grounds and a playground.

Youth Programs

The Randall's Island Sports Foundation provides free programs for more than 14,000 children from local public schools and community organizations. Kids participate in year-round daytime and afterschool athletic programs, six-week nature and sports camps and on-site environmental studies.

Transportation

Visitors can drive into the island or take a ferry. They can also take the Lexington Avenue numbers 4, 5 and 6 trains to Lexington Avenue and East 125th Street and board special X80 event buses.

Volunteer Projects

Over the years, numerous individuals and renowned companies have volunteered their time to assist in restoration and gardening projects such as planting the shrubs and trees on the island. Tools, gloves and planting material are provided.
